More Summer Photography in Philadelphia.....

Yale MFA Photography 2008
Gallery 339
Opens July 11th
July 11- Sept 6

This show started at Yale University, moved to Danziger Projects in Chelsea, and now finishes up at Gallery 339.It includes the work of nine photographers from the Yale MFA Photography program. Of most interest locally is Sarah Stolfa. The image below is titled Glendale, Tx, and is in the current show.

Stolfa is a graduate of Drexel University. While working as a bartender at McGlincheys Tavern in Philly, she kept a Hasselblad behind the bar, and would occasionally ask her patrons to pose for portraits. The resulting photo study is a beautiful and respectful look into the loneliness of the urban bar scene. This study, called The Regulars, won wide acclaim, and a 2004 New York Times Photography award.
Below is my favorite portrait from that series....Jesse Schabel

Those are beautiful pictures. They help me remember something I sometimes forget, that their subjects are also beautiful.
