Here's a tip I just discovered using the SX-70 Blend
So, I recently purchased two packs of the slightly pricey SX-70 blend rather than using the less expensive 600 film pack. After finishing my first pack of the blend, I pulled it out of my SX-70 and found that it had a darkly-tinted filter placed over the now empty film pack. Oddly enough, the filter has a large sticker reading "DO NOT REMOVE THIS FILTER." I did. I carefully took it from the empty blend pack and taped it on top of a fresh 600 pack. I lined it up in the exact same place where it had been on the blend pack. After placing the filter on the 600 film pack, I carefully cut the two nodules on the back side of the pack that keep it from properly inserting into the SX -70. I held my breath and placed the modded 600 cartridge in my camera--and it works perfectly. I've shot a good 13 photos with the new, cheaper alternative, and as far as I can tell, there is no difference between the modded 600 and the blend. It seems we're paying a good $10 extra for a dark-tinted piece of flimsy plastic. All I have to do now is keep the filter clean.
I hope this helps if you're looking to save a few bucks but still enjoy your SX-70, like I have. So if you have a spare, empt blend pack around, I suggest giving it a try.
ps- I found your blog via JPGmag.com. I enjoyed your article. You can find me at http://www.jpgmag.com/people/dbmaynard

Thanks Drew! Laura....I get my SX-70 Blend from www.Lordofthelens.net
The film isn't cheap, but it produces very nice results. I am also going to try Drew's suggestion.
